Which 3D printer to buy in 2026 — a buyer's guide

How to choose your first 3D printer: budget, build volume, enclosure and multi-colour printing.

When choosing a 3D printer, the spec sheet matters less than one question: what will you actually print? Here is a simple decision path.

1. Decide what you need it for

Hobby, toys, decor. An open-frame printer and PLA are enough. Do not pay extra for an enclosure you will never use.

Functional and technical parts. You will want PETG, and ideally an enclosure.

Business or small-batch production. Prioritise speed, reliability and auto-calibration — the printer should run unattended.

2. Build volume — do not overpay

256×256×256 mm is enough for most people. Large parts are usually split and glued anyway, which is often faster than one 30-hour print.

3. Auto-calibration is not a luxury

Modern printers (Bambu Lab, newer Creality models) level the bed and tune the first layer themselves. For a beginner this is the single most valuable feature — the first layer causes most failed prints.

4. Multi-colour printing (AMS)

An AMS lets the printer swap filament automatically and print in up to four colours. It looks great, but be aware: every colour change purges the nozzle and produces waste. Multi-colour printing costs more material and more time.

Worth it if: you print colourful models, logos, toys.
Not worth it if: you mostly print single-colour functional parts.

5. Enclosure

Only needed for ABS/ASA and high-temperature materials. PLA and PETG print perfectly on open printers. If ABS is not in your plans, do not pay for it.

Practical picks

Beginner on a budget: an open printer with auto-calibration. Simple, fast, covers 90% of tasks.

Hobbyist who wants colour: a printer with AMS. Convenient if you print a lot.

Professional / business: an enclosed, fast printer supporting engineering materials — ABS, ASA, PA, PC.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 3D printer cost in Georgia?

Entry-level printers start at roughly ₾1,000–2,000. Mid-range machines with an AMS sit around ₾2,000–3,500. Professional enclosed printers start from ₾5,000. See our catalogue for current prices.

Which 3D printer is best for a beginner?

One with auto-calibration that prints PLA out of the box. For a beginner, what matters is not peak specs but that the very first print succeeds.

How long does a 3D print take?

A small part takes 30 minutes to 2 hours. A medium model 4–10 hours. Large or complex prints can run 20+ hours. Speed depends on layer height and infill.
